Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ – Experience the Eternal Sensation
In 1982, when somewhere in a studio, a guy in his twenties sung – “It’s close to midnight and something evil is lurking in the dark” -- he had no ideas that he was lighting the tunnel. Thriller was born out of the rasping voice of Michael Jackson. MJ had an odd cute guy charisma that had endeared him to people even in Ben (1973).
His ‘Thriller’ with nine tracks was big! So big that it still remains the highest selling album with an apocryphal 110 million copies sold. ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Beat It’ still come instantly on people’s tongues; those people who drunk the magic of Michael in his and their youth. Just to give an additional touch, Michael wrote four of his nine songs, showing certain lyrical touch. Shot with an average budget, the songs have the characteristic blackish hue, with diamond-flashes that was the signature tune of MJ. In true fashion, ‘Thriller’ and not ‘Ben’ showed the world what it awaited, though unfortunately, Michael couldn’t produce the same intense magic again.
Some puritans will ever argue on the actual brilliance of MJ as a singer. His power-packed dancing and energized performances however will inarguably leave its imprints on the generations. Michael Jackson is no more, but his ‘Thriller’, the crowning glory of his charts remains with us to savor.
